Today, Karpata is the name of a Bonairean province, a nature preserve and one of the most popular dive sites on Bonaire. It is certainly one of our favorites and many of our “shallow water” pictures were taken there. The historic plantation Karpata was named after a plant still common to the area, the castor oil plant.
Bonaire itself is a small island located in the southern Caribbean known for its pioneering role in the preservation of nature, in particular the preservation of the marine environment, and for its excellent scuba diving, snorkeling, and windsurfing.
